Entry Level Math (ELM) and English Placement Test (EPT) Information

The ELM and the EPT are Math and English Placement tests required for students planning on enrolling in any of the California State Universities.


REGISTRATION

There are many dates offered for students to take the ELM and EPT placement tests at CSU Fresno and other CSU campuses. FUSD has a test date for FUSD only students at Fresno State in the Spring . More information will be posted when it is available. ELM and EPT test prep courses will be offered at Bullard starting in January. Students will be sent more information at the end of the Fall semester.


EXEMPTION CRITERIA

Students can be exempted from taking the Math (ELM) and/or English (EPT) for the following reasons:

Math:
– EAP score of “Ready” in Math (Standard Exceeded on state CAASPP testing done Spring of    11th grade)
– ACT score of 23+ in Math
– SAT score of 550+ in Math
– AP Calculus or AP Statistics Exam Score of 3 or higher
– EAP score of “Conditionally Ready” (Standard Met on state CAASPP testing Spring of 11th    grade) and completion of a math course with a prerequisite of Algebra II or higher and
earning a C or better during the 12th grade.
-SAT Math score between 490- 540 or Math Score of 20-22 and completion of a math course   with a prerequisite of Algebra II or higher and earning a C or better during the 12th grade.

English:
– EAP score of “Ready” in English (Standard Exceeded on state CAASPP testing done Spring    of 11th grade)
– ACT score of 22+ in English
– SAT score of 500+ in Math
– AP English Language or Literature Composition AP Exam Score of 3 or higher
– EAP score of “Conditionally Ready” (Standard Met on state CAASPP testing Spring of 11th    grade) and completion of Expository Reading and Writing or an AP English course with a
C or better during the 12th grade.
-SAT English score between 460-490 or ACT Math score of 19-21 and completion
of Expository Reading and Writing or an AP English course with a C or better during the
12th grade.

PREPARATION

FUSD provides preparation courses for both Math and English. If not exempt from taking the test, enrollment in the preparatory courses is strongly recommended.  The class information will be available at the end of the Fall semester.
